Deep down there is an innate desire for appreciation, love and recognition in each of us. The fundamental aspects of life are proof of this common intriguing fact. From the very beginning of existence there is a connection between mother and baby in the womb. The vital line for the very survival of the tiny human being growing inside the womb is the umbilical cord. From the initiation of life, the relationship between mother and baby in utero is parasitic in nature where the baby depends on the mother for dear life. The fetus moves within the environment and is faced with all sorts of dangers. But, one of the most dangerous and most vulnerable times is during labour. The cord can be compressed and what was the life line of the baby is cut resulting in suffocation and eventually brain damage/death. But labour is a risk worth taking. It is necessary towards gaining independence. The journey towards independence is not easy but it is necessary for progression in life.  Independence involves adaptation to the new environment and use what we had developed while within the sheltered environment. If a baby is born at term, he/she has mature lungs and is able to use their lungs in extrauterine life. Once the baby is born the cord becomes redundant and is cut. It is upon the baby to adapt to his or her new environment since permanent separation has occurred. But, the remnants of the primordial connection remain tatooed on the abdomen. It is evidence of the connection between mother and baby. It is important never to forget the relationships of those you hold dear to your heart even while independent. We all seek independence in life in its various forms whether its financial, social or whichever context you look at it from. The point is that in order to become independent you must breakfree from past connections that may hold you back. We however, should not forget to show appreciation for the connections that helped nuture you to your current state of independence.

Relationships are important for growth. However, relationships that add no value in current or future circumstances are redundant and potentially dangerous. Sometimes separation is required to prevent adverse outcomes.

The journey towards independence never ends. It is part of life. No one ever progresses without the help of another/ others. It is important to be grateful for the people who may have contributed towards our growth at various stages of life. However, never let a relationship that is not of value burden you or allow it to be a perpetual threat towards advancement. Separation must occur for healthy development.

Have a lovely week.
